Springfield 1842 rifled musket

Lucked into another beauty at my favorite gun store.

Walked in to find a beautiful Armisport Springfield model 1847 rifled musket - which is kind of a misnomer. The Springfield m1847 was, as far as I know, a carbine length weapon. The musket is actually a m1842. The m1842 was the last Springfield smoothbore. They were actually made with a thicker barrel under the assumption that they would be rifled later on. When they were rifled, long range sights were added. They were stamped 1847 when they were rifled, though there is some debated on where they were stamped.

So, this is a "defarbed" model made by Armisport for Chiappa. As such it is mostly accurate historical markings, and very close to original. It is in near-mint condition, and may not have ever been fired.

Bill payday, so I gave them some bucks to hold it for me and will pick it up later. Final price will be right at about $400.

This is not the one I'm buying, but is the same model...
