Project gun
« on: July 05, 2016, 01:26:48 PM »
A friend brought a couple of guns when they visited for the long weekend. She was wondering what value they had, and if I was interested in them. Well, they really aren't worth anything in their present condition....rusted pretty tight, rust all over. Anyway, when they left Sunday afternoon, the guns were left standing beside the door.  This is a Davenport "Acme" single shot 12 ga.

Missing the butt plate, but that is no big deal. After letting the Kroil work a bit, I started working the thumb lever and pretty soon it swung far enough for me to tap the barrel and it opened!

Thanks for those links. When (if) I get that far I'll have to check some out. I also have a bunch of butt plates in a drawer here, don't know if any will be close.

If you are looking for the older "Dog Head" butt plate, then no. I looked the buttplate up on-line and I do have 2 "lined" buttplates. I don't have any history on them, but one is smaller and looks like maybe repro.  The other looks to have some years on it and is longer. If any interest, let me know.

I'd like to take this steel 94 Winchester plate off mine and see if it will fit my 94 Winchester.  ($!

I had to put the screwdriver bit in the drill press to get the tang screw out, but then the stock just popped right off. Still need (maybe) to take the main spring screw out and clean and lube the innards good.  I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel L@.

All's good just as long as you're having fun young man. Personally, I'm having "projects withdrawl", but I'm constantly on the look out.

My main gun related project is one I've been working on for several years off and on. Trying to work down a Richards Microfit stock for a G 33/40 Mauser. I'm not a woodworker by any means and when I saw how rough it was I almost sent it back but dang that's some pretty wood. When I got it I was working and figured I could pay somebody to finish it out but nobody wanted to touch it. I work on it here and there til I get tired of it and put it away for a few months. Bout time to drag it out again.
