Got it out. Cleaned everything up and lubed good. All back together now and working great. This what it looked like after I got it out:

Also got the last butt plate screw out; thought I might have to drill but it eventually yielded. I have everything off now that I am going to remove. I didn't remove the firing pins or the top lever as they are all moving freely. I flushed then out good and lubed them. Next major thing is to see about getting the stock back in one piece. I will have to remove old epoxy (or whatever!) so the pieces come together nicely. More to come later.

From the looks of that brass rod it took some pretty good licks to get it out.

Actually, I used a small ball pein hammer to pound the rod. I had to use a long punch along with the hammer as there isn't much space to get a good tap. It was at an angle, but got the job done with about three good whacks.
