I made one for me
« on: November 03, 2017, 02:21:01 PM »
I recently took a little time to make a rig for my self.    This one will carry the 1860 Thuer Conversion I bought a few months ago from Gary Barnes.

The holster is a two band Mexican Loop style with border tooling and is fully lined with calfskin.   I cut the throat deep to expose the full trigger guard and chose to sew the toe almost completely shut,  only allowing a small opening for dirt to drop through.

For this rig I decided a knife would help balance it out a little,  that and the fact I had this Damascus blade I traded for that I've been wanting to find a purpose for.

The gunbelt is a "money belt" type, that allows for safe keeping of valuables, money and personal property.   It was one of the most popular types of belt made and used on the frontier during the late 1800's and early 1900s.    It's made by folding a soft lighter weight piece of leather such as calfskin in half and sewing one end and along the seam to form a tube.   Items can then be stored in the tube for safe keeping.

In order to prevent the items stored inside the belt from falling out the billet end is passed through a slot cut in the buckle end of the belt which locks the contents in place.

Also included on the belt is 25 cartridge loops, which along with 5 rounds loaded in the revolver will provide 30 rounds without digging into pockets for cartridges to reload with.

Thanks for all the nice comments Gentlemen.   Now I need to get out and use it.  I'm still looking for a new place to shoot.

Well, I am wordless. A copy of a Thuer and a "money belt." I doubt that I will never get around to making my own money belt. I likely will have a Thuer copy though before I pass this world. Regardless, I am impressed and envious at this time. Right on Mike!!!
