More than 1100 Walkers?
« on: January 31, 2018, 09:52:22 PM »
Wow!  This is something interesting!,-

'. . . . Every pistol that I have sold which was condemned by the government inspectors after wasting four months time in humbugery . . . . . .furnishing men to waight on,  alter & fix to suit their whims . . . . . I have sold for $35 each . . . .'

This was Colt to , ,  some general.  Look what is says!   This implies that colt took rejected ,,  whole pistols?  Replaced them and sold the rejection?

This could mean there were more that 1100 Walkers produced!  ?!

Here you are Captain,-

Probably but it doesn't make any difference in the greater scheme of things. It was probably less than 50, maybe even less than 25.

Refurbishing a damaged pistol and reselling it has no affect on the total number of those originally produced.   ::)

The quote doesn't say the rejects were replaced, pistol for pistol.  The gubmint may have received a credit or refund though.

As G Dog said, it's possible the condemned Walker's were replaced with Dragoon's in the next contract. By the way, I think condemned is different than damaged. Guns can be condemned for any reason. I don't know about the Walker's specifically but for the later Single Action Army the government had gauges and such to check the specs and tolerances and if anything was out of range it was condemned. So I don't think condemned has anything to do with the 300 or so Walker's that blew up.
