Who got a issued a sidearm in the civil war?

Some artillery I think they used them to kill wounded horses so maybe wagon teamsters carried them although I don’t know if they were “issued” or acquired

Sergeants and up carried them including artillery. The cannon crews themselves didn't have them. Mounted couriers etc. carried them. The navy used them. Some infantry were issued them at the beginning of the war but were soon discarded or sent home. The cavalry of course but that's about it.

Now they weren't "issued" but I know Mosby's guys pretty much used exclusively pistols they had liberated, and eschewed sabers.
