A New Knife
« on: August 02, 2018, 11:00:31 PM »
I was recently gifted this piece. It is hand forged from a very old file. I gave the file to an up and coming blacksmith after selling him the idea that old files and rasps contain outstanding steel. I never expected to get the file back in the form of pure craftsmanship. I made the sheath for it.

Your friend did a great job with that old file.   Nice work on the sheath too.

Ya, Mike, my wife got that for me last winter. She took your advice and went with the outfit that you recommended.

Yep, I like both items....a lot! Can you use the back of the knife handle as a fire striker?

Hi, snooby's knife got me wondering about getting a new knife for use when shooting. I like the idea of a Damascus knife and took a look on eBay. I found this knife and ordered it:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Handmade-Damascus-steel-Hunting-skner-knife-with-Rose-wood-handle-A59/362542298278?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Hope it takes a fine edge and that the metallurgy is as advertised.

Regards,
Richard

Beautiful craftsmanship on the knife and sheath. I'd be proud to own that rig.

Hi, is there any special "care and feeding" issues for a Damascus knife compared to other knifes?

Regards,
Richard
