Tooling my own holster
« on: January 07, 2019, 05:35:58 PM »
I'm no professional by any means. Leathercraft is just a small hobby interest of mine. So I got to thinking, that my newest creation needed a nice holster to ride in. I had a good sized piece of 9oz vegetable tanned leather sitting around, so I got to work.

First I made a pattern out of heavy paper, in the shape I wanted. Then transferred it to the leather and cut it out.

Once that was done, I traced the artwork out on the leather, and started cutting.

Like I said, I'm no professional, but I like the way it's turning out so far. I'll post more pics tomorrow of my progress.

Thanks for the kindly comments!

I got it all sewn up today and now it's drying. I am doing a wet mold of the gun. It should be dry enough tomorrow to dye and finish up. More pics then.

I'm going to break down and order Will Gormley's pattern for the Hand of God rig next week....looking forward to the tooling challenge. Your's looks great!

Those look great Miguel! Nice work!

I agree about leatherwork being relaxing. I enjoy it and am also learning a lot daily. I am a complete FNG with this but I really enjoy it. I can't wait to start applying dye today. I think it brings the leather to life.

Hi Dave, what a nice looking holster. A holster should always look as good as the revolver in it. I wish I had your skill with leather.

Thanks Richard. I appreciate it.

I finished it up today. It'll do for a kick around in the boonies holster.

That's a bummer Desperate Lee. I see everything on this end. Hopefully someone else will chime in and let us know if they see them or not.

Yes Sir! I ordered another big piece yesterday. I already have the pattern made for my new Pocket Navy.
