We live in the upper mid-west, was supposed to have flurries today. Just called to cancel/reschedule a Dr. Appointment as it is white-out conditions now! Can't see across the road, heavy snow and winds.  (jh

As of about 10 am this morning we had about 10" of the white stuff in the drive way (why do we call it a "drive" way when we PARK on it?). Not supposed to end until tomorrow morning when we "might" get up to 12-14" of the stupid stuff. Think I'll wait until tomorrow to use the snow blower to clear the "PARK" way.   )k*

Snow we can handle, it's the ice that makes things even more difficult, often with extended power outages. I feel sorry for those folks in the south and east, makes for a miserable time!

Would it be in poor taste to mention that it's 69 outside right now?

Yes, I would think it in very poor taste......  only kidding....  :'(  actually it is about 36F outside here right now (100 mile west of Philly, PA) so some of the stupid white stuff should melt before it re-freezes into solid ice over night!   L@J

Hi mazo, many years ago I was on a business trip to Birmingham Al when they had an ice storm. It was the first ice storm that they had in many years. Seems that their road crews heard that northerners put gravel down on icy roads. Their attempt to emulate had them put stream gravel down on the roads that contained 2-3" rocks. I returned my rental car with headlights broken out and a couple of huge holes in the windshield. There is a big difference in theory and practice when it comes to mitigating icy roads. I live east of Lake Erie and south of Lake Ontario. A few hundred inches of snow during the winter is normal and we know how to deal with it.

When I was in the Navy stationed on a ship out of Norfolk Va a few of use northerners would go into Norfolk and sit at the bar window to watch the locals try driving in 2" of show. It was a hoot.

Regards,
Richard

So, would it be in poor taste to mention that it is now 73 degrees here?

Ironically, we'd love to have some of the snow the east is getting.

Yeah, I imagine living between two Great Lakes would get you a few hundred inches of lake effect snow! We usually get just under 100" a year here but a couple of years ago was well over 100".
EM....wait until summer and then tell us that it is 110*!

I live in NE Ohio, in what is the snow belt.  This year it has been warmer in Antartica on more than a couple of days than it has been here!  I like winter, but I am looking forward to spring.

Actually, here at the same elevation as Denver, our summer time temps stop at high nineties, occasionally up to a hundred.

EM, we get to that tempu here in Wisconsin, most often with humidity to match! At least there, you have dry conditions. Each area has it's own weather and we learn to live with it.
