Powder shop
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:53:43 AM »

This is the little area I'm setting up for pressing my green powder into press cake.  Buddy of mine up in OK machined me the cylinder and piston out of aluminum, and you can see a couple pucks drying on the parchment paper.  Not pictured is the burr grinder, and I have one screen box at the moment, have to whip up a couple other ones so I can sort my granulations.  There is a learning curve when you are trying to figure out how moist the green meal should be, but like most things black powder, even if ya screw up a little, it's not the end of the world. My ball mill is out in my backyard house (don't really know what to call it, it's a small two room house with a porch that is in my backyard.  Guy before me used to use it for a bar and a poolroom, it's kind of my whatever place now, lol!  I also have me reloading stuff, and casting stuff out there, pretty good place to cast some bullets and roundballs.

Keep us posted on the making of your powder! I have heard that compressing the moist powder makes it more powerful?!

It condenses it, so that it takes less volume than an equivilant amount of green meal.

Have you ever added graphite powder to your mix? Wet or dry while milling?
