Stainless Steel Uberti Colt's
« on: June 17, 2015, 09:02:30 PM »
Update `7 May 2017

There have been a few additions to the list since the last update.  There have been two revolvers located in Switzerland, and I just acquired a pair of 1851 Navies - one of which is a consecutive serial number with the first SS Colt I bought back in 2006.  Here is an updated thread  with a picture of the latest two at the end.

In the early to mid 1980s, Uberti produced a line of stainless steel percussion Colt revolvers that were imported to the US by Allen Firearms, Santa Fe, NM; Southwest Muzzleloaders Supply, Inc. Angleton, TX, Uberti USA, and possibly others.  They are now also known to have been sold in Europe under the HEGE dealer name.

Phil Spangenberger did an article about these stainless revolvers in the October 1983 issue of Guns and Ammo Magazine. According to the article, the models that were being imported were the 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, 1861 Navy, 1862 Pocket Navy, and 1862 Pocket police. Thanks to Dr. J.L. Davis of RPRCA, Claremore, OK, I have a 1984 price list for Uberti products that lists fourteen different models of Stainless Steel Colts produced by Uberti at that time. Subsequent price lists expanded the line to 16 models by adding 4 ½ inch barreled Pocket Navy and Pocket Police. The complete model list, known so far, is:

1851 Navy, Oval Trigger guard Revolver, Cal. .36
1851 Navy, Square back Trigger guard Revolver, Cal. .36 *@
1851 Navy, “Sheriff’s Model” Oval Trigger guard Revolver, Cal. .36 *
1851 Navy, “Sheriff’s Model” Square back Trigger guard Revolver, Cal. .36
1860 Army, Military, Cut For Stock, Cal. .44 *@
1860 Army, Military, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .44*@
1861 Navy, Military, Cut For Stock, Revolver, Cal. .36 * @
1861 Navy, Civilian, Revolver, Cal. .36
1861 Navy, Military, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36*
1861 Navy, Civilian, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 4 ½”@
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 5 ½”*@
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 6 ½”
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 4 ½”*
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 5 ½”*@
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 6 ½”
(* - have identified location of examples of these models)
(@ - have this model)

The current total of known revolvers is 31. I have nine of these revolvers and know of twenty two in the hands of other collectors or BP shooters. The latest two that have been identified were listings for two 1851 Navies on Gun Broker.  Two of the known revolvers are in Switzerland, and one is in England.  The Swiss models are marked Hege and the English model has the typical Allen Firearms barrel address.

Anyone with information concerning Allen Firearms, Southwest Muzzleloaders Supply or any other Uberti Stainless Steel Colt style revolvers is requested to contact fingersmcgee@charter.net  I am seeking information as to models, manufacture dates, serial numbers, barrel markings, barrel lengths, trigger guards, and any other characteristics as well as any catalog, brochure and original packaging information.

This thread is pinned; but this should bring it to the top of the new posts list.

Still looking to enhance the collection and data base.

Finger's, Were they exclusively made for Allen's Firearms? And do you know if both Pietta and Uberti make certain models currently exclusive for importers such as Taylor's, Cimarron, etc? I have a steel frame Pietta 1851 Navy .44 cal Sheriffs model that I purchased from Taylor's before you could find the steel frame model anywhere else at the time. Not one single proof mark at all?

They were not made exclusively for Allen FA.  Southwest Muzzleloaders Supply, Uberti USA and possibly others imported them to the US (know of some with no barrel address).  I've found out recently that they were also imported by Hege in Germany and possibly by someone in Switzerland (one I have identified there has no barrel address).  Cabela's sells (or sold) a number of Pietta models that no one else seemed to sell (The US Marshall models being one).

Fingers, That US Marshal is the exact one I had in my mind when I replied last night! I bought one from Cabela's a couple of years ago that Pietta called the 1862 Army Police, 6-shot, 5" barrel, fluted cylinder 36 cal. Havent been able to find that model anywhere. Taylors has a 44 cal version. I kinda like the one off fantasy guns, they are interesting in the fact that only certain vendors have them, and usually not for long. Just don't understand the Italian marketing ploy. Will be interesting to see where Cabelas black powder firearms offerings wind up after the purchase from Bass Pro. Walkers in blister packs on the shelf with brass frames?  :o. Sure would like to see those stainless guns from Uberti once again...and why not?  Dave

Fingers, I so wanted one of those Marshall's. Low and behold, I found them at another site and they are in stock as well! Call me crazy, but this isn't the first time I have seen them disappear and then resurface elsewhere. Cabela's is the ONLY place I have ever seen the Navy Marshall model. They have them over at E.M.F., as well as a square trigger guard Navy in .44 cal. Pietta and their one offs absolutely drive me crazy. (??
