Hosting and Security Issues
« on: July 11, 2019, 05:55:22 PM »
We are moving to a new hosting company. The reasons have been previously stated here…

http://1858remington.com/discuss/index.php?topic=12129.0

Hostinger is the new hosting company and they offer 4 years hosting for $165, which is less than the cost for 8 months with our current hosting company.  I do not know when Hostinger's promotion for new customers will end.

I can continue to pay for hosting on a monthly basis with no problem, but can not afford the discount package at this time.

If anyone feels compelled to contribute to the cause, it would be greatly appreciated. If there is a surplus, it will be applied to upgrades and technical issues as they arise.

As always, nothing is required or expected from anyone.

Thank you,
Smokey

Funds sent, Smokey.

Fellers, this seems like a great deal. 4 years of hosting covered for the price of several months, and we get our SSL issues fixed...sounds like a great deal to me!
I believe this is one of the best BP forums out there, and I also believe we have some of the most knowledgeable, friendly, and generous members out there. Let's prove it! Remember, even 5 dollars will help.

Smokey,  does the $160 cover hosting for both the 1858 Remington Forum and the Colt Country Forum or is $160 the cost for each forum for 4 years?

Done.

Headed over to give my meager donation now.

Hope it helps.

Hosting includes both websites.

A request was made Thursday night to members of the 1858 Remington Forum and Colt Country via posts on both forums and to the members of the 1858 forum by newsletter. The newsletter function is broken on Colt Country.)

The financial objectives are as follows…

Lifetime SSL Certificates: One is free.  The other is $12.
SSL Certificate  installation ( I am likely to have to hire some help)  Safe estimate: $80
4 year hosting: $165
3 year priority tech support: $72 ( Both forums are way outdated. Updates can go wrong. This has already happened to Colt County. I am glad we had timely tech support.)

Target Total $329

Amount raised by members of the 1858 Remington Forum and Colt Country to date:
(Members names omitted)
In order…
$30
$50
$10
$20
$10
Total $120
Thank you for your contributions. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I am proceeding with the migration of our forums to Hostinger. Anyone compelled to help out can send funds via…

PayPal email address: smokey@blackpowdersmoke.com

The donation button on the forum homepage.

Or email smokey@blackpowdersmoke.com for physical address.

Thank you,
Smokey

OK, fellers.
Don't mean to go all preachy on ya's, but here it is:
First off, I don't want anyone, ever, to feel they are 'obligated' to donate to Colt Country. Ever. And if you stop by every so often, probably even less of a reason to feel so inclined. A lot of work has gone into creating a place you all can call home, talk about most everything under the sun, and get treated as friends and family. And these upgrades are long overdue and needed to keep it running safe and secure.
If you have already donated, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This is a big fix, and should have us covered for several years. Even 5 bucks will help...yes, even a dollar.
Anything you can do puts us closer to our goal and will be greatly appreciated!
Donating is simple...click on the DONATE tab in the header and you can let PayPal do the rest. It's simple, and only takes a second. If you "don't do PayPal" for whatever reason, Smokey also does snail mail and yes, he takes checks. Even one dollar checks.
Let's keep the best BP forum on the 'net in that #1 slot.
