Patersons Are Useless
« on: January 25, 2014, 10:14:51 PM »
Came across this photo in my archives. It could be from as far back as three/four years ago, perhaps. I recall that I was aiming center mass for this group. I did that a lot for several years in the past when shooting at paper. I suspect it was from around 15/20 yards.

I have since resorted to using a piece of blue tape for an aiming point for the past couple of years now when I shoot at paper.

What a neat revolver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have always admired those.  That is one of the Colt models that I have not yet had the opportunity to fire, but I do hope to one day rectify that.  L@.

Next time I see one of these with a decent price tag it will be mine. Of all the Colts I like the classic lines on these.

They ARE useless. Being as such, you should just send it my way.

Good looking and interesting revolvers.

Isn't there always too much month and the end of the money?

im like you, i love the looks of a paterson, but the few i handled felt clumsy and awkward, not at all like a 51 or 60. you know, the classic colt, comfortable feel.      still, if  can ever see my way clear, i will get one.   beautiful pistols.      mark

As far as handling goes, think about the first time you held a revolver after a semi-auto or vice-versa. The new one always felt awkward compared to the new one. After playing with mine for a while, a '51 Navy feels odd.

I can't imagine a Navy feeling "odd". It's the most natural-pointing gun I own!

Very good point Drayton. And now that I have handled such a wide array of Colts, none of them really feal awkward. Instead, some just feel different than others.

But for me, as I have alreadty mentioned, it all boils down to experiencing an historical aspect. The Paterson simply is what it is.

Although this thread is quiet old, I want to comment. I have quiet a few Uberti's and some second generation Colts. However, if I ever see a Patterson with a loading lever, come hell or high water, it's going to become mine.

I found a Uberti Patterson with a loading lever. Actually, I received an email offering it to me. It should be here by next Friday or Saturday.

It wasn't cheap, but the price was managable. It is unfired and unturned.

The Uberti Paterson with the loading lever came today. It was far better than what the seller said it was. Frank Graves, the seller is a good man to deal with.

My digital camera died today too. May it rust in piece...
