Title: Crazy Horse
Post by: Wild Wilkie on January 27, 2016, 09:25:52 AM
Recently read "The Killing of Crazy Horse" by Thomas Powers.  This is a scholarly book, about the life and " assassination of the Oglala Lakota leader named Crazy Horse because he rode through a battle like a crazy horse.  He was a leader whose attack split the Custer's unit in half at Little Big Horn.  The Crow claimed to know him best of all the Lakota because he was always in contact with them in battle.  He was killed when the Army and the Oglala tried to put him in a jail at Camp Robinson  near the Red Cloud Agency in September 1877.  He was bayonetted by a US Army soldier while struggling with Oglala and soldiers who were trying to put him a guardhouse. He died soon after.
It was a political event which some claimed was supported by Red Cloud, General Crook, and many others on both sides.  His body was hidden some time later by family members, and the location is unknown to this day.  There are no positively identified photographs of Crazy Horse.

I highly recommend reading this book.
