I've been workin' on this hawk as a gift for the gent that engraved my Centaure, he charged me way too little!!! The b--ch was finding real brass tacks. I finally got different sized brass brads and some large headed brass-top tacks with steel shanks. Also got some sinew, the real stuff for binding. Finally, I clipped some tail hair off my horse for the scalp lock. It smokes OK but leaks at the metal to wood join some, but I figure that eventially tar and nicoltine will fill the gaps.
