As my Ancestry is Akwesasne Mohawk of the upstate New York Reservation Region, I was curious to know what language was spoken. Also will continue with other info, and the Nuni Native American Culture of which Soul Beauty is full Blooded...
I have started with the following.

What language did the Iroquois tribe speak?

Answer:

 Mohawk

Mohawk is a Native American language spoken in the United States and Canada. It is part of
the Iroquoian family. Mohawk has two major dialects, Akwesasne and Kahnawake; the
differences between them are largely phonological (e.g., Akwesasne has /l/ while Kahnawake
 has /r/).okay

The 'Iroquois' name refers to the tribal nations that lie within New York and parts of
Canada. They are also known as the Haudenosaunee, or "People of the Longhouse". So, all the
tribal nations are the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk and Tuscarora. Each tribe
has their own language and regions where they lie, ie. Akwesasne and Kahnawake reservations
speak the Mohawk language. The Alleghany, Cattaragus and Salamanca reservations speak
Seneca.

There isn't such a tribe as the Iroquois. Formally the Iroquois are referrenced as being
the Six Nations Confederation as described above. However, Iroquoian is a language grouping
consisting of many tribes or nations that speak a similar language with differing dialects
. It is not only the 6 nations. It also includes the Cherokeeand Huron as well as others.

Hey SG,

Great info-
My ex-girlrfiends mother is 1/2 Passamaquady, from new England. Came from NH
About a couple years back, some one found a V-shaped stone wall deep in the Quinebaug River across from where I live.
they investigated it , and found it to be a fish trap used by the Indians many years ago.
They searched the land and found alot of artifacts. sealed it off they did.
We also have Fort Shantock not far from here. Mohegen tribe I believe, thre is a monument to a chief there. I use to find arrowheads in the river thr as a kid. My friend found a square stone that was cut diagonally in it like an x. bet they were making 4 arrowheads from it.
As far as the Native Americans here, the Mohegan- and Mashantucket Pequot Indians run the casinos here at Foxwoods and Mohegan casinos.
I wish it were the past Native Americans who could of profited back then.

Howdy, SG and Fuzzy.
My father was half Micmac (Mi’kmaq) from Nova Scotia.  I went to the reservation 10 or so years ago - the Chief at the time had the same last name as mine.
I've been checking out this English/Micmac translation site.  You type in an English word, the Micmac word comes up and people speak it.  Interesting.

SG, when are you coming back East?
