Well I got to the Range today so I can offer a Range Report. Cynthia suggested the three of us pack a lunch and head to the Range so I can shoot a couple of my new pieces.
And off we went Mika, Cyn, & SG ... the Colt Lightning .41CF, Rem Derringer .41R, 1973 Springfield Trap Door in 45/70, the .50 Hawken Frontier 24" bbl, and my SS ROA .45Colt on the hip.
There were a few people there for bein' a Monday ... and asked if anyone minded me shooting the Trapdoor in the pistol house along with all else I brought and they said no problem.
I pulled my Thunderer out of it's Frog I had it in on my belt only to discover the front site was gone. After searchin, all of us , for a spell I gave up and nailed a rock at 75 yards after 3shot with no sites...it workes real well but feel pretty badly about the sight.
The 1873 Springfield punched a 1 gal milk jug a water nicely using the BP loads I had for my H&R 1872 45/70.
The Remington .41R Derringer made a hurrendous hole in a Big Bean can at 8 yards...the ammo was surprizingly hot for it's size.
Last but not least my Favored CVA Hawken Frontier .50cal...performed as I expected it to It was right on dead center at a 1 gal milk jug full a water, but I was shootin' low till I got acustomed to the sights. I tried 60 and 70 gr. at 50 yards ... my 2nd shot took the target out dead center.
I enjoyed shootin' all of them but the Hawken and Springfield ruled today. I'm glad I have the two handguns but the Rifle does Rule...

See pics here ...

Day at the Range 7/7/2011
Well Cyn. Mika , and Me took and packed up and headed to the range heat or no Heat ... it wasn't too bad up in the Tree line about 4,000-4,500 feet...at least there was a breeze and some Shade.  Smiley
I'll let the pics spea for themselves, the .45Colt "Bounty Hunter" performed remarkably as did the smokeless reloads I made for it. I brought thay 1862 Army police with the Kirst .38spl Konvertor and it shot very well also with mt HBWC with smokeless Powder ... I had one dud my fault and one real light one...all the rest were on target and the Rev Shot great (Thanks Fuzzy)
The .44 Marshall 1851 Navy .44 cal with short barrel was my good friend Jesse's(Outrider) I had yto empty it as I got it loaded from his Son when he passed on. It shot great also...
The Ruger 10/22 pictured was one I had bought with a bunch a .22's and a couple shotguns ... it fired flawlessly... I might add that Cyn shot the 1861 Navy very well and bounced cans all over ther place...she also did well with thw 1890 .45Colt Rev and the Ruger 10/22... Mikayla fired her first full size rifle today and it put a big smile on her face...I save the shell for her to keep.
Last but not least a Shotgun I fell in love with when I first saw it was my FOX Savage 12ga SxS Coach gun (Thanks Again Fuzzy)... one of the Sweetest Shotguns I've ever fired...it Kicks pretty good and I loved it... I tried #8 shot at 10 yards and it devestated a half gallon Lemonaide carton full a water ... I put some #4's in it and at 25 yards blasted a 1 gallon milk jug ... the one I'm holdin' in the pic... I love this SxS yes dance
Ok here's all the pics I took and this day made me a new man ... I am happier than a pig wallowing in cool mud...
Pics of the dayat the Range...

It was a very good Day at the Range yes dance cowboy and I'm beat... time for  toast wine SG

Alright, good to hear you made it to the range. I'll bet Mikayla makes you take her to the range more often now. It'll be good for both of you.

Man oh Man S4B I needed that ... and I hope Mika does make me take her more often. And it was Cynthia's idea to go for a while I can't thank her enough for helpin' to motivate me... But now I have more fun the rifle, a Shotgun, and 3 Revs to clean  laugh Wink dance

I'm glad we made it up there today too ... I'm more relaxed than I've been since the Rondy in March...  Smiley
One thing I did note though by firing off that 1851 Navy .44 cal C&B Marshall was I like Black Powder better than the Smokeless powder... Not that I dislike the Smokeless carts I loaded, but it's just differant. I think I'll load some BP Cart rounds for next time ... them Smokeless ones are accurate as hell so I need a baseline in BP cart too. Wink dance guns

Them BP cartridges are the best thing goin I think, If I reloaded that's all I'd shoot. There are 2 shoot goin on here this weekend. one saturday and one sunday but I can only make it to one.
Saturday shoot is the 24th GA skirmish group is havin a get together and practice shoot and cookout all about 20 minutes away, Sunday shoot is one of the big active muzzleloading clubs monthly matches about an hour and half away. Can't decide which way to go. panic CSA

You should go shoot every monday and get good and relaxed at the start of the week. dance guns

Do they let you shoot the 1853 Enfield at the Muzzlloading competetion shoot? Or would you bring the Frontier Hawken?
What prizes could you win an hour and a half away that would make up for the Eats 20 minutes away? heehee laugh
Man now that I try decidin' for you it's a tough call... I guess I have to go back to my previous post. Cheesy dance

Gonna call the guy in charge of the club tomorrow and talk with him, I think he is also a NMLRA field rep. They are the club holding the Georgia state championship in september. I also found a website for a gun club in the next county over that says they have a muzzleloader shoot every month, their site is under construction so not much info but a number for me to call tomorrow and check on that too. It would be great to find an active local club again. dance yes
I think I'm gonna skip the skirmish shoot,I really enjoy the civil war history but after all these years I'm just more interested in other time periods now. lol3
I'll take the Hawken and probably the Enfield too incase there is a good trade opportunity.
