Long Time Cowboy Wild Wilkie

So there was another Paladin rerun on TV yesterday.  Seems Paladin promised a man a fair trial, but some old man whose 2 sons had been killed in a fair fight bought the jury and an innocent man spent 8 yrs in an Arizona prison.  Well, the PO'd father hired 5 shooters to kill the man when he got out of prison. The father died before the sentence was up.  He left a leather bag with five bulletsin it as a warnng: a .45-70, a flat nose .45 for a Henry, a brass cased 10 ga, a Remington Keene and a metal cartridge for a Colt Walker.  Ooops! A cartridge for a Colt Walker???  The former prisoner carried an 1855 Colt Revolving rifle with a LONG barrel.  It had the Root side hammer action.   Paladin had his pistol and a short barreled Win 73, maybe 16".  All this took place about 8 years after the war, say 1873.  I had to look up the Remington-Keene, Bolt action rifle a new one on me.  Well, Paladin and the ex-prisoner killed 3 of the hired guns in town and then went on to  the ex prisoners home and laid a trap for the remailing two.  The next morning the hired guns attacked when the ex prisoner stepped outside the house.  During the shootout, the real surprise was when the wife poked a Sharps 1873 carbine out the window and killed one of the ambushers at a couple hundred yards!!   Paladin had spent the night in the hills and got the last one with his carbine.  Never did see anyone using a Walker or the bolt action.  A good black & white show.  Ben Johnson played the ex prisoner.

I saw that one yesterday.  I even pointed out the Colt Revolving Rifle to my wife.  I handled a few of those at the James Julia auction.  I did not see it revolve when Ben Johnson fired it, but then again he might have had it cocked before the camera went to him.  I do not think that was a replica.

One of these tables had some.

Here's one on GB.  The one Ben Johnson carried had a fluted cylinder.

I have it on DirectTV.  It is the Encore Westerns channel, Part of the Starz Entertainment movie package.

http://www.starz.com/channels/encore/encorewesterns/

It has old TV shows like Paladin, Laredo, Gunsmoke, Lawman and quite a few western movies.  I can't say much for the rest of the Starz/Encore package.
