General Discussion / Re: Hurricane Florence Relief Loan Request
« Last post by Smokey on October 09, 2018, 01:45:55 PM »
Quite a few people have helped us since Hurricane Florence devastated our community last month.

I have made every possible effort to reach each one of you to acknowledge and thank you. Since I could not match up all of the email addresses with forum profiles, there are a few that I could only reach by email. Not everyone frequents their email addresses, so I am still striving to insure that I have reached everyone.

If you have responded to my distress call and you have not heard from me by PM or email, please contact me by PM or at smokey@blackpowdersmoke.com. I just want to be sure I have reached everyone.

All in all, we were lucky. We did not lose our home, we only had uninsured damages, loss of food and a loss of income as we are among public school employees who are out of work for an undetermined time estimated to be up to two months. It has been one month so far. In addition,, I have two months of recovery ahead of me from my surgery this Friday October 12th. I can not thank you enough for your help.

General Discussion / Hurricane Florence Relief Loan Request
« Last post by Smokey on September 21, 2018, 01:21:11 PM »
Hello,

My name is Tim Lewis, aka Smokey. I am the webmaster of blackpowdersmoke.com. We have been hit by disaster and I am asking for help in the form of loans to be repaid with interest.

My family and I are in Lumberton, NC, where our community has been devastated by Hurricane Florence. We have lost our food and many of our clothes are ruined from water from the leaking roof and collapsed ceiling in our bedroom. We are without insurance and are considering asking from  relief from FEMA.

We have gotten some help which helped with food and supplies, but our cash reserves are low.

My wife and I are employees of the Public Schools of Robeson County. We had just returned to work on August 28 and it looks like we are going to be out of work for at least 4 weeks.

I am not asking for handouts. I am asking for loans which I will repay by February of next year plus interest.

I know I am asking a lot: for your trust though we may not know each other well or not at all. Please help us get through this catastrophe.

If you are willing to help us with a short term loan,
you can use my personal PayPal to send money. I will receive 95% of what is sent. I will repay 100%, plus interest…

G'day from the  deep south of Australia. It's time to get out of the "serious" centerfire competition & back into fun & this seems a likely place to start. 3    {;( related pieces to start with - where will it end??? Cheers.

Welcome! Glad you are here. Hope you will post often!!

Forum Donations / Thank you

I would like to thank those of you who responded to my request for financial help with operational costs during a time of personal hardship.

Nothing is expected or required as a member of this forum, yet you are one of a small number who came forward and contributed toward the cause. You can rest assured that your contribution helped keep the forum going at a time when I could not. I am deeply appreciative of you.

I have contacted those who I know by name and those I could find  email addresses on within the PayPal contact information.

Yet there are a few that I could not identify. When I have access to a computer online, I will try again to retrieve contact email addresses in PayPal. At this time, my internet access is limited to a phone.

Whether I have been able to contact you or not, I do want to acknowledge and thank you.

Thanks again,
Tim

Howdy Captain,
That was my first thought but there's enough of the original cylinder proof marks left intact so as to make it easy to confirm its origin. Is the frame engraving a 'usual' style/type used on repros do you think?

Definitely curious, yes.
Wondering if someone in the past was trying to pass it off/sell it as an original?

G'day folks,
Bought this piece reasonably cheap ( for AUS ) recently. It's had a very basic 'defarb' job done on it but hasn't been fired much at all. Thing I'm curious about is the choice of marks put back on the  barrel & backstrap -  ' J M Cooper & Co ' on the barrel and ' James B Hume 1852 ' on the backstrap. Most all the original marks/stamps have been removed, apart from part of the Italian Proof marks on the cylinder. Any opinions on the combination of 'Cooper' and "Hume'? My searches have come up with J M Coopers being the maker of a double action variant of the 1851 & James B Hume being Chief Detective for Wells Fargo. Curious or not?
   Cheers, Ian.
