I ended up ordering the commercially made version for rifle and revolver. After soaking the cylinder in Kroil for a week and then kerosene for a couple more, when the fitting arrived, I put it on a impact driver and they spun off like nothing. Ordering new cones and all should be good to go.
I've found that the impact is as much worth as the soaking. And of course a tight fitting socket is needed.

The tight fitting socked is an absolute must. Without it, the socket will just batter the edges on the nipple. I have read where some have used an electric drill with a torque setting and that acts like an impact wrench.
