45 Schofield loads
« on: November 28, 2016, 04:05:57 PM »
Whew!..... Had to get off the firearms blogs! I don't like rudeness from a man, I won't tolerate it! Good to be back amongst Friends!
I want to load some SCHOFIELDS! For Kirst Converters! Really wanna try some Trailboss.  I have been experimenting with some smokeless and Black loads, as well as some in 45 Cowboy Special. I am using a mid 90's Ruger Vaquero as a guinea pig. I really think the 45 CS is ok. Think I should stay with the Schofield. Any advice and wisdom on this subject would be appreciated! Thanks Guys!....Dave. &\?

Never loaded .45 Schofield but Trail Boss works well in .45LC loads. Do keep us posted (pix are nice!) and welcome back!

Hi Dave,   I think Electric Miner loads .45 Schofield and I'm sure he uses some Trail Boss too.     He might be able to help you out.

Check your PM,  I'm sending you one.

Oh, what are you shooting them out of. I have found some of my Colt clones can't shoot Schofields because of the width of the rim. They interfere with each other. My Rugers have a big enough cylinder for Schofield, and I have an 1860 conversion pistol chambered for Schofield.

This is my primary .45 Schofield sidearm. It's a Cimarron 1860 Richards-Mason conversion chambered for .45 S&W (Schofield).

My primary loads for it are a 205 grain lead round-nose flat-point over 5 grains of Trail Boss, or a 255 grain LRNFP over 4.5 grains of Trail Boss. Both these loads are per the Hodgdon loading data at their website online.

This target is two 5-round groups at 15 yards. The load was the 205 grain load.

Excellent Miner! I will be using these in a 5 shot Kirst Converter. The 5 grain charge of Trailboss seems to be the ticket.

Well, you're lucky to even find it. Around these parts it's been unobtanium for the better part of two years.

Captain, I wonder why? I called the largest nearby shooting range/supply yesterday and the guy told me he hasn't seen it in quite a while. Is it just supply and demand? Or lack of demand? The place I got this had 5 cans available for $19.95(EA).  This stuff is strange, it's in the standard 1lb Hodgdon can filled to the very top,(almost spilled it when I opened it) but only weighs 9 oz. ??? Maybe I should go buy more?

The "preppers" are buying untraceable black powder revolvers and conversion cylinders and rolling their own.
That's why there is still a shortage of .22LR. A salesman at Bass Pro, when asked why I couldn't find .22LR told me a guy has been there every week buying as many rounds as they would allow and stockpiling it for the "zombie apocalypse". He said the guy told him he had over 35,000 rounds in his basement.
That's just plain nuts. Somebody NEEDS to eat that guy's brain...
Buy as much Trail Boss as you can get as long as you're not getting scalped on the pricing.

Trail boss and 22 LR are everywhere here.  No problem getting anything you need.

Probably fewer people watching brain-dead TV where you live.

Seems they are all smoking dope and protesting Trumps election which keeps them loaded all the time so they don't need to "reload".
