1860 colt .45lc build
« on: March 22, 2017, 07:08:00 PM »
so i bought an engraved with the naval scene taylors conversion cylinder and an engraved barrel for a pietta 1860 colt in .45lc... i dont own any colts in .44 other than my 3 walkers and 2 C&B 73's... i'm going to build a dual purpose gun again, like my walker, i have some questions and want some suggestions...

will the barrel and cylinder for the 60 fit on a frame for a 51 44?

i'm thinking of getting the thunderer gripped 60 that taylors does with the fluted cylinder and doing something like i did with my walker, having both C&B cylinder and the .45 cylinder and a short and long barrels all for the same gun. i think the thunderer grip would look pretty cool for both variations..

they have one of those thunderer gripped guns in the store in the white and the CCH are on back order...

what do y'all think, thunderer gripped in the white or go with the CCH?

a 51 .44 steel frame cut the 51 barrel down like my walker and have the long 60 barrel as the set?

come one guys lets spitball this and see where it lands!!!

Hi Bruce, barrels and frames of the Pietta .44 1851 and 1860 can be interchanged.

I have a 'Thunderer" 1860 Army in 44 cal. Fun and accurate. A lot of people don't like the birds head grip. But I think a lot of those people never handled,or shot one. They work great, even with an 8 inch barrel. I think it would look cool with a 5 1/2 barrel. I bought mine from Old South,it has the 1860 engraved cylinder.    Sounds like a good plan to me!  Good Luck!

Just my opinion, but I think the engraved parts might look better on the white frame. And yeah, it would be a "fantasy" gun, but you like the unusual, so go for it! I made a bird head grip frame for the '51 snubby I made.
