All I have left now to shape is the tail end. I also took out all of the tooling marks from the completed file work and then polished it clear down to 0000 steel wool. Other than the scrim work and dye after I finish the tail, she is is getting close to being done.

There, the hard work is done. I will put up a few final pics when I get it complete.

Hey mazo, here is the tool I made to scratch on antler. It is made from a circular saw blade from an old saw mill. I have the tip ground and honed into sort of a triangle shape.

+1 on Hawgs WOW!!!     I am thinking about attempting one of these too.   I have lots of antler to mess up.  It won't turn out like yours Scooby but I'll give a try.

Thanks Hawg & Mike. Good to hear that both you may make one.

It goes along without too much difficulty using files to do the shaping and then progressive grits of silicon carbide sand paper to finish out. Then polish with 0000 steel wool.

Any kind of dye will work, as will potassium permanginate and aquafortis acid. This piece was colored with Rit dye.

The feeble attempts on the measures that I made, I stained with my home made walnut dye. I admit I didn't spend a lot of time in making mine. Thanks for posting the photo of the hand-made tool you use, I just happen to have some old saw blades here.
