Antler powder measures
« on: December 06, 2013, 11:04:53 AM »
Here are some powder measures I made a couple of years ago. These are for smaller charges as I can't seem to find straight larger sections.

Good looking measures.  I have made a few of them but only have one now, a 62 gr measure.  Was supposed to be 60, but I gots carried away a leetle.  :-\  I could file down the top, but sound too much like work  (jh, and 2 extra grains don't seem ta bother the flinter none. )lI

Yep! The larger one holds enough powder for my 58 flinter. The one on the right is another bird head, but just carved in the horn itself.

I really like them Mazo. I have made up a bunch of them myself over the past few years. I found out just like you that the larger volume measures are harder to make because most antler is not straight.

I'm going to have to try making a few of those. My problem is my artistic skills are not up to my desire and imagination.

Like these are "artistic"? Scratch or file in some designs. Well OK, so I did carve the eagle head but that isn't too hard to do.

Your scratching at least looks artistic. My scratching would just look like a bear mauled it.

I agree, my scratching looks like, well....scratching! Nothing like the way you manage it.  Those with talent always think that what they do is nothing, because to them it IS nothing.  And that is appreciated.  You do something nice and make it look easy.  Yes, I truly am impressed.  They all look very nice.  *?.
