RIA 1911 9MM
« on: May 17, 2014, 08:08:13 AM »
If I can get a few extra bucks together I think I'm going to pick up a RIA 1911 in 9mm and then the extra parts to convert it to 38 Super.
I have a RIA 1911 compact makes a great carry gun and house gun its in 45 ACP.

Have you considered the 38/45 cartridge?  The parent cartridge is the 45 ACP and it is necked down to accept a .358 bullet.  I believe it was originally designed by Bo Clerke for the purpose of using SWC bullets in the 1911.  Heck, with that bottle neck, you could probably load wadcutters.  Velocities were said to approach Magnum numbers.  A 38 Super barrel was rechambered to use in the 1911.
Knowledge carried to the grave unshared, is wasted.

My RIA in .45 ACP loves SWC's. Full wadcutters are the only thing I haven't tried but it feeds empty cases so I'm sure they wouldn't be a problem. The gun looks a lot better now since the parkerizing has soaked up some oil and it lost that chalky look.

I don't have an RIA, but have heard good things about them. I have an old Colt 1911 in 45ACP, a Series 80 1911 in 40 S&W, and a Taurus in 45 ACP. I still prefer the SA over the DA pistols.

I want to hate RIA's, but I can't,
so I hate that I want one instead

as far as double action semi auto pistols go, I agree with Elmer Keith

The RIA 1911's remind me of the old government issue guns, not very fancy but they just work.
