Title: Casting with the old moulds again
Post by: scooby on January 21, 2017, 01:58:26 PM
Went outside last last night to and fired up the lead pot in order restock a few bullets.

The 36 heel base conical does a plenty decent job and is ideal for my paper cartridged for my Navy revolvers.

This Winchester mould is 44 WCF calibre. I shoot bullets cast from it in three different guns. The mould is in superb shape retaining all of the original bluing and the cavity is comparable to new. It is hard to find one in this good of shape.

I said I was going to do it, so here it is. The tiny mould will indeed make a roundball.

This is a flint pistol that I can get the balls to work in from the tiny mould. They are a bit small at .350 diameter, so I will use a thicker patch. Even though I have a correct sized mould for this pistol, I will cast and shoot these originals just because I like doing such things.

And just for kicks, I threw this pic in to show off the rear sight on the pistol

Good job on using those old molds. Great looking pistol too!

Now that's what I like to see, Scooby. Someone actually using things as they were intended.
I'd like to see a close-up of some of those heel based bullets.
