Lead casting / bag mold? + 69 cal musket ball question
« on: September 01, 2016, 06:10:39 AM »
1, what's a bag mold.. I've not heard that term before.

2, I'm looking for a mold for roundballs for my 69 cal musket.  Currently buying balls from Dixie, but that's breaking me.  Now that I am casting, I want to get a mold.

The Dixie balls are measuring .675

I wouldn't mind staying with that.

I see tow has a .680 primitive scissor mold with stem cutter.

Anyone got any other sources??

The .675 rams home nicely with my cotton patches, I'd like to keep that trend, and not get into harder loading pressures:)

I searched, but didn't find any, but might have missed them, as I browse on a phone.

Buddy had some xray lead shielding.  We cut it into strips a couple weeks ago, borrowed a propane fryer burner, last night smelted, cleaned and poured 61# of pure lead ingots , mix of pounds n halves.

General Discussion / getting another guy in!
« on: April 22, 2016, 03:41:57 PM »
After taking my revolvers out shooting, got a friend hooked, he picked up 2 1858 pietta.

We've now been shooting a couple times a week.

We noticed a third friend was feeling a tad left out.  He's in an income crunch right now so me and 2 buddies started looking around.  Then poof, cabelas puts some revolvers on sale, plus free shipping.

We split an 1851 3 ways as an early birthday for him.

It comes next wed.   I make loading stands and brass powder measures.  Another buddy is gonna donate powder and balls, and the third guy caps n lube.

We already have nip wrenches and stuff.  Nip picks..

Should brighten his day

It does pour flat.. I'll give it that.. More uniform than my foil poured sessions.

I'll cut some. tonight as a test.

I see pics are limited to 182kb.

Dint think my 40mp camera is gonna help... :)
