Gunsmithing/Tuning/Parts & Repairs / Re: Has anyone done this Colt mod?
« on: December 30, 2015, 07:19:26 PM »
Pretty much the same as this guy's mod here, only I think that instead of using that pin and coil spring (and having it ready to attack you the instant you unscrew the grip then fly into two different parts and go hide somewhere plumb across the room,) I think it'd be better to go here and spend the $8.00 and get the spring and hand joined as a unit (least then you'd only have ta hunt fer one part, not two)!
Do this mod and never have to worry about yer hand spring again.

For "repro's", parts are available at:

Cimarron Firearms

Jedediah Starr

Lodgwood Mfg. (this company sells some original parts from its inventory-check availability)

Taylor's & Co. (carries parts for Pietta, Uberti and Armi Sport-Chiappi brands of repro's)

Antique Guns (Yeah, know yall's thinking "Oh man, that's a auction site" - Also sells antique gun parts - pulls from junk guns that are still good parts).

S & S Firearms{/b] (Sells both some original parts and some repro parts).

Navy Models / Absolute Newb Question!
« on: December 30, 2015, 06:42:53 PM »
Goon has been flexing his influence muscle, and can't quite decide (being a absolute newb to Colt - Dad had one that I used ta shoot but that was close to 40 years ago and it weren't mine but his -) which is more comfortable in the hand - a Pietta 1851 or a Pietta 1861? Ain't lookin' ta start any quarrels, just need honest opinion to decide's all.
