Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Mass shootings too far??
« on: Today at 12:04:29 AM »
A recent study showed that knives were used in killings three times more than all types of rifles.

Mag changes can be done in seconds.  Nobody is continually spraying rounds into a crowd without some sort of magazine change.  With a little practice,  just about anyone can change a mag,  reload and be back in battery before the empty mag hits the ground.  The same applies for pistol magazines.  Let’s not forget the revolver shooting champion...  I forget his name,  who can empty the cylinder of his revolver, dump the spent cases,  reload and be firing again before all the empties hit the ground.

Regardless,  criminals don’t follow the rules.  They never have and never will.

Did they need a forklift to drop off that package ?  It looks like a lot of iron...   :-*

If you watch the video closely,  you can see the bullets just before striking the target.  15 gr. Seems awfully light to me.  It’s probably slower velocity than your standard Wham-o slingshot.  (7+"  8)

tljack,

If you can,  remove a grip panel.  Heat a paper clip red hot.  Then touch it to the inside of the grip where it won’t show.  If the grip melts,  it’s a faux ivory.  If it doesn’t melt,  it could be the real deal ivory.

A friend of mine bought what was supposed to be a scrimshawed piece of ivory tusk.  He paid a ton for it.  The thing was even wrapped in old,  antique British newspapers.  Everything looked right,  even the growth streaks.  He got it at a gun show.  We did the melt test....  his face melted when he found out he had been taken.

Regardless,  you have a very nice looking revolver.  8)

Flintlock Muskets and Rifles / Re: Show us your flintlocks

Boomstick,  your rifle looks like an early CVA or Jukar rifle.  I’d try a .440 cal ball with pillow ticking patch,  and start at about 45 gr FFFG.  They used to have good barrels,  but the early flintlocks weren’t all that reliable.  They have since improved them.

I watched the video.  I’m not certain, but was it about “pocket” models ?  I lost count of how many times he said the word “pocket” or “pockets”.  He could tighten up his script.  L@J

Patersons / Re: Any GreyBoxer Patersons out there?
« on: September 07, 2018, 10:45:37 AM »
There is something about those Paterson revolvers.  I have an engraved Signature Series.  It is a thing of beauty.  I also have a pristine Uberti version with the loading lever.  Another beauty.  I have seen only one unengraved Signature Paterson for sale.  But that was a couple of years ago.

Supposedly,  there might be approximately only 200 of the engraved versions.  The plain ones might be around the same number.  I have no way to prove or disprove that information.  It just comes in trickles from postings and conversations.  At least it is interesting.   8)

The smaller, bottom revolver looks like a brass framed version of the 1862 Pocket Police model. It looks like it might be a Pietta. 8)

Patersons / Re: My Paterson again

I might be wrong...  nothing unusual, but I thought the #5 Paterson revolvers had the loading lever. My Uberti Paterson does. 8)
