Percussion Caps and Primers / Caps,Old and New
« on: November 25, 2016, 06:33:20 PM »
When I started shooting Colt black powder revolvers back in High Scool (1970) it seems I remember the caps were thicker. Never having a cap jam, ever. The fact is,you had to take your finger nail to remove the spent cap off the nipple. The caps came in a blue plastic container like the steel Remington caps do now. I think they were made in Italy. They were the only caps that I could find at the local Gun Shows at the time.  Anybody else remember these? The gun was an 1851 Navy steel frame,.36 cal.  I remember it was accurate as hell.  The older you get,the better you were.   Anyway, just asking.

Percussion Caps and Primers / 10s,or 11s?
« on: August 29, 2015, 12:24:46 PM »
CCI,or Remington's? How does one determine what cap is best for a gun. I am thinking of CCWing my 1860 "Thunderer" once in a while. What bothers me is making sure the thing will go off if spit hits the fan. That and keeping the caps from falling off. I was also thinking of putting some on Slick nipples (what ever they are called). How well do those work?   I carry a Ruger SP 101 357mag with a 3 inch barrel. I have 5 holsters for the thing, and only one fits, but it fits perfect in a Pistol Packaging Pancake. I will probably have Mike116 make me another one, that will be a cool half dozen. What the hell was the question?

Powder / Black MZ

Anybody use this in their Cap and Ball revolver? I just got a pound to try in my front stuffers. Called Alliant Powder about using it in black powder revolvers, and they said   NO!   I didn't ask them why.  What say you?

How does one get these things to shoot where you point it.You know how they like to shoot high. Can you file the hammer enough to make it happen?  If so,somebody could make some money doing this service.
