Interesting Front Sight
« on: November 07, 2016, 04:12:48 AM »
My brother missed out on this 1860 in an auction.  We speculated on the reason for the front sight.  Let's hear your thoughts.

I'd say somebody was using it as a target pistol.

Very likely.
Nice looking piece!

I like hooded sites on my rifles,  why not on a revolver.   I would guess as others have that it was a target set up.

He and I figured it for a long range sight used with a shoulder stock.  I have a several spare 1860s so may give it a try with one.

That one isn't set up for a shoulder stock, at least not a conventional one(no screws). Did anybody notice it's missing a couple of screws? Either that or they're broken off.

The missing screws are probably why it went for less than expected.

The frame is cut for the stock as is the grip strap.  A shoulder stock will work even with the missing 4th screws.

It should make an interesting albeit single purpose experiment.

be danged ... somebody bought that good lookin old girl for 650? pretty good lookin ol '60' in my humble opinion ... all numbers match and those screws would be a snap for replacement.

no wonder the hammer would not release when the trigger is pulled.

CONGRATS TO THE WINNER OF THIS OLD SWEETHEART.
