Fun that you guys got this topic started up again. I was watching the marathon of COI this weekend, real interesting stuff. I think it's called the Money Pit for a reason, but its fun too watch none the less. Highlight so far for me was the oscillating machine driving those pipes down into the earth, fascinating machinery.

The real curse of Oak Island is that their search efforts are extremely limited by the short summer season, plus the fact that the Laginas and their helpers can't do this full time. I sincerely hope they find something...anything, before Dan Blankenship passes. Even if it's a small treasure chest with a couple hundred dollars in coins. Just something to show that these guys were on the right path.

Now answer me this; Season 5 E1; they send a hi-def camera down into C1 where the silt from last season has settled over the winter and get clear pix of the bottom, where there are metallic looking objects buried in the silt. They send down a diver who promptly stirs up the silt again and comes up with a bag full of mud. And now they want to send him back down again, at a no doubt HUGE expense, to see if he can pull up the objects, which the experts are saying appear to be iron and/or steel in nature.
What is wrong with dropping an electromagnet on a cable to see if they can latch on? Seriously, any first grader could figure that one out.

I see a conflict of activity sending down an electro magnet inside a steel pipe don't you?

Ordinarily, yes. But if it was shielded on the sides, I see it being possible. You could leave it switched off until you entered the chamber with it.  Wouldn't necessarily have to be super-strong, just enough to pull the objects out of the muck and set them in a basket with a pull rope.

I've always wondered, if they're convinced the heavy flooding is due to booby trapped tunnels leading to the ocean, why not hire a tiny sub to traverse around looking for them. I'm assuming its because my understanding of geology is pretty off.

Pretty sure it's due to visibility problems. Mini-subs generate a lot of backwash with the props and stir up the silt on the bottom of the tunnels.

Well, now that the 2018 season has ended...
I'm encouraged at the new Smith's Cove structure findings, and discouraged at the lack of any hardcore finds of value.
I'm thinking this is a literal definition of "Money Pit"...and the only fortune involved is the one they have spent digging holes.
But of course, I'll watch next season... L@J

In case you missed it, Dan Blankenship passed before the 2018 season ended. A true legend in his own time; RIP, Dan.
