HELP-What lock plate used on pistol?
« on: May 19, 2013, 10:35:54 AM »
Hello folks.... My late father back in the 50's, 60's early 70's used to work on firearms of all types. He was a machinist, woodworker and self taught gunsmith all in 1. He made 2 black powder guns in the 60's. One was a pistol and the other a long rifle. Engraved the lock plate on the rifle was "Janssen Sons & Co.". So a lock plate from an old Belgium shotgun was installed on his rifle.

I CANNOT ID what he used for the pistols lock plate. The lock plate has in very small letters "E. THOMAS" engraved in from of the hammer's location. On the left side bottom of the lock plate are 2 birds engraved (pheasants?). The lock plate has very fine scrolls engraved throughout.

Both weapons are made from walnut and are beautiful when seen in person. Can anyone help me ID the lock plate on the pistol he built? Just now trying to learn about these guns he made. Thanks.... Brad
