1861 Navy
« on: March 21, 2012, 04:32:33 PM »
I bought this 1861 Navy this weekend. The case is actually a 1851 Navy, The accessories are 2nd gen but not 1861 Navy. Don't I wish they were?!!!

I do believe that it's a full fluted 1860 Army, not an 1861 Navy.  The accessories are 1860 Army too.

Great find jack.  An F series 2nd gen in an ealry 2nd gen case with 2nd Gen accessories.  If the bullet mold is .36 cal, they are 1861 Navy accessories.  The only difference between the '51 and '61 accessories is the bullet mold.  The '51 had a brass mold & the '61 had he blued steel mold.

I'm jealous.  I don't have an 1861 mold.

Don't be too jealous. I do not have a 61 mold either. According to Dennis Russell who authored the Colt 2nd Gen Collecting books it is a mold for 62 police. The case is an 51 Navy.  Even so, these items have value, look pretty cool together and he said I did good for what I paid.

Ah, you have the 36P mold rather than the 36B.  It's a great looking set. You did do way good.

Stillwater, for some reason I seem to be "brain dead" when it comes to picture posting. Hopefully I will get it eventually.
