On the Woodpile
« on: November 29, 2016, 10:02:54 PM »
I've decided to allow one of my revolvers to pose on the woodpile each week...whichever one is being nice and well-behaved.
Tonight it happened to be the Navy.  :)

Those grips look great; are they original to the gun?

Interesting story, that.
There were two Navy Colts for sale in the LGS where I worked once upon a time. One had better action, the other better grips.
I took home the one with better action and better grips.... ;)

This week's battle was quite a power struggle between the boys. The winner is...
my latest "saddle tramp" 2nd Dragoon, A.K.A "Joaquin Murietta"...only because he's the new kid on the block (and he threatened to "shoot my steenking eyes out")!!!
This is a "rode hard and put away wet" Armi San Marco with scuffs, scratches and wear in all the right places and I'm proud to add it to my stable!

This week's choice was easy. I had the "boys" out and my unfired .44 'sheriff' brasser just looked at me with them sad eyes and, well... I told him to climb on up an' smile at the camera.
This is one of the few BP revolvers I've ever bought brand-new and it remains unfired to date. You will note that it has the dreaded "Pietta Tail" but I really don't mind it on this gun (date code CH). It actually looks halfway decent to me with the short barrel and brass frame. As Richard had mentioned in another post, the brass frame gives it an action like a hot knife through butter,  the bluing is deep, rich and even, and the lockup is tight with perfect timing. For those reasons alone I will hang on to it, plus the fact that I got it on one of Cabela's crazy sales for $149.00 with free shipping a few years back now!
Enjoy!
