1st Generation 1849 Pocket Models
« on: September 08, 2019, 11:50:46 AM »
Can we get a little action here on this board?  I'll start:

Just won one on Gunbroker.  1865 manufactured 6 shot Pocket model that had a rear sight added at some point.  Unfortunately I can't post any pictures of it.  The attach file option isn't turned on. Guess that's one reason nobody is on this forum

Well, now the attachment button is active, so here's the pictures you've all been waiting for:

That's a great find Fingers. I kinda like the rear sight added. It looks to be a pretty nice shape for 1865 manufacture.

Looks can be deceiving, was full of rust and corrosion, Barrell/Cylinder gap is way too big to measure, doesn't lock up very well.  I'll keep it; but won't shoot it.  I'll shoot the one I bought from Rock Island Auction.  This one is in great shape. cleaned up real nice, lock up is good.  It'll go to the range when the weather improves.

Both of them are 6 shot models, not 5 shot.  Approximately 1/3 of all the Pocket Models (105,000 + ) were 6 shot.

That one's a real gem. Even the roll marks are in good shape.

Looks good! A rear sight? Very interesting. You probably got it at a good price. I need to get one of those stands. I am in the process of purchasing a 1849 Pocket. It has a lot of the original bluing left. I signed an agreement with the devil to get it. ;)

Dang it Fingers, you are getting some real gems lately!

Do you shoot any of the "real" Colts? Or do you plan to?

They're all subject to being shot.  The 51 Navy has so far. I dont have the right size bzlls for th pocket models. The.323 balls are too big to load easily.  I need some .319 s or .321s
