1851 Navy
« on: March 01, 2020, 07:09:06 PM »
Well here it is, the first of March and time for our first Monthly Spotlight. As decided, we're starting it off with the 51 Navy.

Here's my contribution to the discussion, my Gregorelli and Uberti Navy. It has a low serial number of 1379 and no other markings on it except for a "59" stamped on the face of the cylinder and inside the frame. There are no proof marks, date codes or anything on it. That would put it at either 1959 or 1960 manufacture. I'm assuming 1959 due to the low serial.

It's definitely not a collector grade gun, but it has value to me just because of what it is. It's a great shooter and I use it regularly.

Here is my contribution to the thread.  A pair of Allen/Uberti 1851 Navies in stainless steel.  The first one I bought off of Gunbroker  in Dec 2006 for $199.00.  It had been shot & not cleaned very well.  The second one I bought in May of 2017 along with a second one as a pair for $700.00  All-in-all a great deal.  When I was logging them into my inventory, the serial number on one of the pair looked familiar.  Upon checking, the serial number on one of the Navies I just acquired was consecutive to the Navy I bought in 2006.

Man, those are rare and gorgeous Fingers. And how cool is it that you stumbled into consecutive serial numbers? Small world indeed.

Uberti made somewhere around 20,000 SS Colts in 16 different models between 1981 and 1987.  This based upon documenting them for around 14 years.

20,000 doesn't seem like a lot to me. And even so, out of 20,000 pieces, you randomly got consecutive serials from two different sources. That's amazing to me.

It is kinda amazing.   And it was eleven years apart.

The searching for SS Ubertis has only come up with 36 so far.  Between the highest and lowest serial numbers is only a range of a little under 20,000 and the serial number range is different than normal B/CCH revolvers made by Uberti that I've seen.
